Bible Reading: Joshua 6:22-25.
Whenever I read the story of Rehab the harlot who lodge the spies in her house, when they were sent to Jericho by Joshua, it always amazed me how God's mercy can singled a person out of a country, changed her life entirely and protect her family from danger.
One question that do comes to my mind is that, why is it that it was the house of Rehab the spies entered to lodge in? This is nothing but a function of divine mercy extended to her. It was the same mercy that father, mother and siblings of Rehab found that saved them from the destruction. Because any man could have been the father of Rehab, anyone could have been her mother and siblings, by why is it that it was those people that were her family, divine choice by divine mercy.
But my emphasis was not just the mercy she got from God but her response when the mercy was extended to her. It is one thing that the men came to her house, but it was another thing that she was ready to receive, hid them from the arrest of her own people, before negotiated for the deliverance of her family and herself.
What if she refused to welcome them? The mercy would have turned somewhere else whoever and to whom the mercy turned would have been preserved while her family and herself would perished with Jericho.
But she didn't reject them, she gave the spies hand of fellowship, place to lodge, food and security and that changed her life and that of her family. You need to learn this lesson, that God will always work it out that mercy will locate you. And when it comes, the package of mercy will look like a burden of assignment on arrival, but if you do the needful then the assignment will transformed to mercy in the hiding. May you learn to cultivate culture of taking responsibility to cooperate with what God is doing and working in your life.
Prayer Points: Grace to cooperate with God to do things that will attract mercy and retain it in your life.
