THE PRECEPTS - Topic: STRONG BUT DEFEATED
Bible Reading: Psalm 78:9-11, Genesis 14:8-16.
Children of Ephraim were fully equipped with weapons for the battle, they have the strategy and the skill to win the battle, but yet the bible says in the day of battle they turned back. Was it because the enemies were more equipped with more superior weapons? Not so. Was it because the enemies have better strategies? Not really. It is because they defeated themselves before the battle began, how? Vs.10 and 11 said, they do not keep the covenant of God, they refused to walk in his laws, so they forget the wonders of their God, which He did for their fathers.
When armies of five nations fought against Sodom and Gomorrah plus other two nations that joined them in Genesis 14:8-16. The five nations defeated Sodom and Gomorrah and took them captive with Lot. When Abraham heard that Lot was taken captive, he guarded 318 Servants trained in his house and Abraham led them and they confronted the Armies of the five nations that defeated Sodom and Gomorrah in battle, and Abraham won the battle and brought back all that they have taken from Sodom and Gomorrah including Lot.
I believe you will agree with me that Abraham's 318 servants not armies, against the trained military of 5 nations, could not have been a game of numbers nor game of strength in the battle. In fact it was like naturally Abraham and his 318 servants were on suicide mission, but though, they were less in number and less weaker in strength naturally, yet they won the battle. What was the secret? The secret was God's covenant with Abraham. It was God's covenant that David use in fighting Goliath, it was with covenant that Hezekiah got victory over Sennachrib in 2 Kings 19:1-37, it was with covenant that Jehoshaphat won the battle against the three nations that came against him unaware in 2 Chronicles 20:1-30. If all these won by covenant, Epharaim too should have have won by covenant, but he disregarded the covenant which was the main determinant for victory in battle, and because they forgot the wonders of God, then, they lost the battle.
As you proceed in your endeavors this week and this coming month, take with you in faith the covenant of the word of God, and every other effort you put forth, God will take it and use it to bring you great victories in all areas of your life. Do not forget, by strength shall no man prevail 1 Samuel 2:9. The covenant of God is your guarantee for a successful living.
Prayer Points: Pray that God will give grace that you will always become conscious of His covenant, recognize it and fufill your role in His covenant for victorious living over your life in Jesus.
